The leadership skills of Adelaide’s Lord Mayor are critical in determining the effectiveness of council and obtaining the best outcomes for our community.  Adelaide deserves leadership that is action orientated and understands the contemporary issues we face; a leader who is qualified, experienced and a hard worker who understands the future and is able to lead by example.

Stephen aspires to build a team; a cohesive Council that will work to position Adelaide as a world leader in education, sustainability, lifestyle and economic progress.  A council that is smart, strategic and focused on delivering the best possible service to the community.

As a leader he wants to create a healthy council culture with a climate of trust and honesty, to be a Lord Mayor who is a team player, consensus builder and motivator, who is flexible and inclusive but strong and decisive when needed.

Having worked in Local and State Government Stephen believes he would complement the CEO’s role in facilitating effective action.  He understands and respects the need for good governance and is able to relate well to Council staff and management.  He will work hard to reduce bureaucracy, generate efficiencies and maximise real results.

Stephen has a community, rather than a party political approach to Council and is not aligned to any party.  He has dedicated his life to understanding the planning and management of cities and believes he has the right tools to provide skilled leadership. He is an active listener who is optimistic, creative and committed and able to communicate effectively with all walks of life.

He offers honesty, openness and integrity; cares about Adelaide and is passionate about its future.  He is ready to serve the community and would value the opportunity to earn your support.
